Now I know what you’re thinking… You’ve read ‘Monthly Reset Routine’, rolled your eyes and scoffed at the concept of taking part in yet another ‘TikTok trend’.
Don’t judge a blog by its title!
Now if you’ve read any of my other posts, you know I’m all about spreading the news on how to cultivate wellness and the last thing I will ever do is endorse any faddy trends. So you’re safe from the fickle nonsense here.
But allow me to explain why creating a monthly reset routine is going to be key in getting you to feel like ‘that girl’ (TikTok pun intended).
Why You Need a Monthly Reset Routine?
A monthly reset routine is your own personal pause button, allowing you to stop, have a look around, take stock, and rejig your routines and to-do lists to serve you in the coming month.
Furthermore, it’s a chance to reflect on what went well and what didn’t go so well in the last 4 weeks, allowing you to revisit your goals and recharge yourself. One of the most important benefits of a monthly reset is preventing burnout.
We all use the phrase burnout lightly, but actual burnout is very serious and can be super detrimental to your mental and physical health – monthly resets afford you the chance to revisit your daily habits for the month so you can stop any harmful ones and use your time more wisely!
Ultimately, monthly reset routines exists to slow you down, keep you focused on your long-term goals, and make sure you’re celebrating the wins along the way, however small they may be.
I’m a huge advocate, so let’s get cracking on how you can create your reset routine.
9 Steps for Monthly Reset Routine
1. Review the month
In order to know what to do better next month, you’re going to have to review what you did during this month. Pinpoint any progress you made and weed out the things and behaviors that weren’t productive or cultivating a good balance for yourself.
Did you get to the gym 3 times per week? Did you drink your two litres of water? Did you read your 10 pages per day?
You did? Nice job! Keep going with the habits that kept you on track. If you didn’t have a think about what kind of things are going to help keep you on track. Maybe set some reminders, get up a little earlier or make sure you finish work on time.
Whatever it might be, it could even be the smallest change, do that and it may make the biggest difference.
2. Clear out and declutter
Another self-care habit I’m a big advocate of. A clean, clear, and organized space equals a calm environment.
Although you may not notice it, having a messy space can be quite distracting, and with clutter, it really is out of sight and out of mind. However, that doesn’t mean sweeping it under the metaphorical rug, actually, organize your junk and it’s one less thing to interrupt your focus and delay your progress in the coming month.
3. Review your budget & finances
Check out what you spent and saved this month and if you stuck to your budget. If you did – great! If you didn’t then it’s okay! Adjust your budget for the coming month and be more mindful of what you’re spending.
If you find you struggle with making unnecessary purchases, I would recommend using cash or using your physical bankcard, rather than using your phone or contactless to pay. It’ll keep you a little more mindful of the amount you’re spending.
4. Plan your self-care activities
Allocate time out of your month especially to self-care and doing things that nourish your mind body and soul.
Self-care will look different for everyone; some will enjoy socializing, some will enjoy solitude. But whatever it is, make sure it leaves you feeling energized, rested and recharged.
Need some ideas? Try out some of these:
- Spa day
- Exercise classes you enjoy
- Reading
- Digital detox
- Social outings
- Meditation
- Knitting
- Drawing
- Getting enough sleep
- Being in nature
- Try new recipes
- Journaling or writing
- A trip away
- Join a new class or workshop
- Make up a relaxing evening routine
5. Reflect on your mental health
Has it been a good or a bad month for your mental health? Did you find you had a dip (that wasn’t part of your Luteal phase of your cycle)?
Look at what stressors you might have experienced this month and see if there is any way you can do things differently this month, to prevent you feeling as bad. I know it isn’t always possible, but having sure fire a way to bring yourself out of the funk might help your moods be less erratic and help maintain a higher mood.
6. Revisit your daily routines
Have a look at your planned daily routines, are they working well for you? Are they affording you the time you need to set up your day for greatness? Do you have enough time to wind down and relax before bed? Do you even have any routines?
Take out anything unnecessary so you can get the most out of both your morning and evening routine.
7. Set new intentions
After last month, you might have smashed your goals, so much so that this month you may have new intentions.
Think about the things you want to get done the most and set them as your new intentions. These can be related to your health, sleep, work, family life, fun. Whatever needs your TLC, focus on that for the upcoming month.
8. Organize your calendar
First off make sure that everything you have booked over the next month is actually in your calendar. Then make sure that everything is synced to any other calendars you have and that you leave enough time between everything that’s scheduled to have your downtime and self-care stuff.
9. Finish off your reset with gratitude
End your monthly reset routine with gratitude. Write down everything you’re grateful for in the last month.
Everything counts.
Even the smallest thing. Doing this reminds you of all the positives in your life and keeps you in a space of gratitude and abundance, as when you focus on gratitude there’s no room to dwell on the lack—making space for more good stuff to enter your life.

Make Next Month the Best One Yet by Resetting
A monthly reset routine is more than just another to-do list.
It’s an integral part of maintaining balance, focus and your well-being. Setting aside time to stop and look over everything you’ve got going on in your life is going to create a healthy relationship between you and your accountability over your life.
It gives you the opportunity to change anything that’s not working without dragging it on for months before realizing it is pointless.
As well as adjusting your habits, goals, and routines, the great thing about a monthly reset routine is the sense of achievement it can bring when you look back over all you’ve managed to get done over the month. This sense of achievement helps spur you on to keep the momentum going and make you feel like ‘that girl’ in the process.
With all that being said, is there any reason why you shouldn’t create one? No? I didn’t think so.
Enjoy creating your new monthly reset routine!
